Orchard Anniversary Session :: Kristen & Jeremiah

These two are my sister and brother in law! Jamie and I had some work to do in Minnesota last week, and those days happened to fall on Kristen & Jeremiah’s second wedding anniversary. I’m pretty sure (though not positive) that their dream plan for this anniversary was not to spend it with Jamie and I, so I tried to make it up to them a little bit with a cute photo shoot! I love anniversary sessions, and I’ve been daydreaming about a session in an orchard or pumpkin patch…so it was sort of meant to be.
I seriously love these pictures, not only because they’re of family… Fall things just make me happy.
Favorite. (You can try weird stuff when its family, and sometimes it turns out to be really cute!)Other favorite! This took a lot of tries. I considered turning this into an out-take blog post but I didn’t think Kristen would appreciate that too much…Happy 2 Years, guys! Love ya.

The Sturdy’s Farewell to Chicago

I’m in Alaska! Jamie and I just spent two wonderful days in Unalakleet and visited more people in 48 hours than ever before…world record, I’m pretty sure.
I’ve been wanting to share this shoot since last week, but life got too busy and all I could do before flying north was to upload the photos. My friends Andrew and Alicia are moving away from Chicago and wanted to mark the occasion by doing a photo shoot downtown…such a great idea right? Now they’ll always have these photos as momentos of their time here. Although they are so excited for a new adventure and time in life, I know that they will also miss this city that has been their home for  7 years.
Intelligentsia…mmm.I love this one!! So cute.
This is my favorite! I loved shooting down by the river as the light faded, thats when Chicago is at its most beautiful, I think.Alicia and Andrew, we’ll miss you! I can’t wait to see what adventures are in store for you, I know that you will thrive…Bethany is blessed to have you both : )

Thank-yous and the process.

{First off, please don’t forget about the giveaway – one couple shoot in Anchorage, one in Vancouver and one in Chicago will be given away!}

I have a brand new website! I can’t stop staring at it! I think its just so me…which is exactly what I was hoping for in my new site. I wanted to dedicate one post to thanking the people who I worked with along the way, because I worked with some lovely and talented people!

I started off by working with my friend and talented graphic designer Alicia Sturdy. She sat down with me a few times to hear about my style, what direction I want to take with my work, the type of clients I work with…and then pulled that information together to create my new logo. I think its perfect, and it helped me define my brand in a new way.

Next I had a portrait session of my own with Vanessa Andres, in Vancouver BC…let me tell you, it was weird to be on the other end of the camera! The only high quality photos I had of myself were the ones taken on our wedding day (also by Vanessa) so it was just time for an update.

The final big step was the new website!! I knew that I would be using Showit this time, so that was the easy part – the hard part was finding a designer who could create the kind of finished product that I was dreaming about. I had heard great things about Spilled Milk Designs from some other photographers, then called and spoke to Nick (the owner). After that conversation I knew that it would be a great fit, and it was! I could not have been happier with my experience. I worked with Kara, and she was amazing. Seriously. She was creative and flexible and professional. She took my visions and made them reality…something that didn’t prove to be all that easy to do. Thank you so much Kara! You are the best, and I am so thrilled with my new site!

To celebrate the launch of my new site, I’m having a giveaway {Three portrait sessions – Vancouver, Chicago, Anchorage} click here for details!

PS…There are so many things I love about this new site!! Let me show you a couple things real quick:
One of my favorite pages is the new ‘erica’ page where you get a bit of a glimpse of some of my favorite things…(like Oprah, but not)

I looove the new horizontal-scroll galleries! They go on their own, but you can control the speed just by moving your mouse.
Last one I’ll share! In this site it was important to me to be able to feature a few select weddings and engagement sessions, as well as some favorites from child shoots. You can click on these slideshows and see a bit more depth from the featured couples, rather than just a few on the blog.

South Shore Cultural Center Wedding :: Chad & Andrea

This selection of photos is my first-reaction favorites. Normally this isn’t how I do a sneak peek but because I left shortly after the wedding for my much-needed summer vacation in Vancouver (!!) I just picked a bunch that stood out to put into this blog post…I can’t WAIT get at the rest of them!
I have been looking forward to Chad & Andy’s wedding since I first met with them about a year ago – I knew they were going to have a fabulous, classy Chicago wedding…and I was right! Everything about the day was perfect.I could not stop taking pictures of the adorable flower girl! Such a sweetie.Goin’ to the chapel! I’ve been wanting to shoot a wedding at this church for a while now, just love those red doors!
It was supposed to rain…and look! I guess God smiled on the wedding day cause it was beautiful outside.Time to celebrate!Something about the whole look of the day was sort of old-style classic to me – I love these next photos……especially when we found this boat! Luckily (and with the help of a persuasive groomsmen) the lifeguards allowed  Chad and Andrea to get IN the boat rather than just beside it.
The reception was held at the Southshore Cultural Center …which is also the venue where Barack & Michelle Obama were married! Gotta admit, I was even more excited about the venue when I heard that little fact…it was an incredibly ornate, beautiful setting…and again the Parks District never disappoints! P.S. I’m on Vacation right now! In beautiful British Columbia, in between camping trips in Ucluelet and Nelson…can’t wait to share photos from this trip!
